Reviewing a Client's Answers
Know when a client has finished their form, read their answers in their language beside the English you file, correct anything, and ask the client about the rest before you e-file.
When a client fills in their form through a client link, their answers are saved straight into the form in your workspace. Nothing is filed until someone on your team starts a submission, so you can read, correct and ask about anything first.
Know when a client has finished
Once every section is complete, the client’s overview asks them to confirm the form is ready for review. When they tick it:
- Every Owner and Admin of the workspace gets a Ready for review email. Replying to it reaches the client, if the form has a client email.
- The form shows Ready for review in your Forms list.
The client can only confirm when every section is complete. Until then, the Forms list shows the form’s own progress: Not started, In progress, Needs attention (a section has an answer the official site would reject) or Ready for submission.
Read the answers
Open the form. Its overview lists every section with how many questions are answered and its status, including any marked invalid. Click Edit on a section to go through it, or Review All to read the whole form section by section.
You can change any answer as you go. Every edit is saved as you make it, and recorded with your name.
Answers in another language
The DS-160 must be filled in in English, but your client can answer in their own language. Where they did, the question shows their answer as Original - Read Only and, under it, the English that will be filed, marked Agency Edit. Type the English yourself, or click Translate to English on that field.
To translate every field at once, use Translate All Fields under Business Workspace Actions on the form’s overview. Read the English it writes before you file: the client’s original stays beside it. Reset Translations clears the English and leaves the client’s answers as they were.
Ask the client about an answer
To ask about an answer, or for a missing document, message the client from the form’s Communication page. They can correct the answer themselves on their client link while it is still valid; if it has expired, send a new one.
See what changed
- Each field keeps its own history: hover over the question and click the clock icon to see its earlier values and restore one. See undoing a change to a field.
- Change History on the form’s overview lists every change to the form, by your team or the client, with who made it and when.
File it
When you are happy with the answers, start a submission: see E-Filing the DS-160. A submission will not start while a section is incomplete or marked invalid. If your team wants one more look at the official site before anything is signed, turn on Stop before signing there.
